Breakdown reels show who wins lead-vendor work, while USD and incentives shift the ground

Lead-vendor wins on big and mid-size shows set the benchmark you bid against, and some now openly use generative AI. Standards work on USD and a shaky freelance picture in the UK and California are the context to watch when pricing and staffing.

Shot breakdowns and show credits

Reels show who holds lead-vendor slots and at what scale: a 418-shot lead at one end, sole-vendor 300 to 380 shot packages at the other. Useful for calibrating your own bids. The BOT VFX note on generative AI beside CG suggests AI is entering delivered work.

Update: virtual production in Europe

Update: the new piece looks at Europe-wide LED stage growth, with Nordic pop-up stage use named. It also flags readiness gaps among smaller companies, which may limit VP demand and shape what clients ask you to quote.

USD standards in the pipeline

An open test bed is exposing where USD handling differs between tools, including renderers lighting the same asset differently. If you run or plan a USD pipeline, this is free validation material and an early warning on interchange problems with partner vendors.

Update: incentives and freelance labour

Update: California is discussing lifting or removing its cap, though lawmakers call it a heavy lift. The UK Budget disappointed the freelancer union over tax timing. Both bear on where work goes and on freelancer cashflow and rates.
