California's bigger tax credit pitch adds to the pull on US-bound VFX work

California wants to lift its film and TV credit to at least $1bn a year through 2040, yet shooting days keep falling. Competing incentive regimes are pulling work around, so Copenhagen bids should price in shifting budgets. Worth watching whether the federal proposal advances.

Tax incentives

A larger, longer California credit could pull more productions and their VFX budgets toward the US, and it adds to competition for work that might otherwise go to European vendors. Yet the credit rise last year did not stop the fall in shooting days, so the effect is uncertain. Worth tracking the federal bill too.

Virtual production pipeline

On-set image accuracy is being treated as a pipeline issue, not just a colour issue. If previews are trusted more, fewer look decisions may slip into post. That could affect how you scope on-set supervision and final-pixel risk in bids.
